The Many Kinds of Tarps

There are a lot of different types of tarpaulins out there. So how do you know which would be best for what you need it for? Let's take a look at all the different types.

  • Poly Tarps-These tarps are usually blue in color but also come in other colors, such as green, silver, orange, white, brown, camofaluge, red, yellow, and clear. These tarps are made of a plastic material with a polyethylene coating and are weather resistant, very durable and waterproof. the are generally used for coverings on damaged roofs, as lean-to's when camping, as a ground over when camping, or to cover other outdoor valuable to protect them from the elelments.
  • Canvas Tarps-These types of tarps are brown, white and green in color. They are water resistant and breathable. Canvas tarps are also flame retardent. Thse tarps are made from closely woven pain weave fabric made of synthetic or natural fibers. these tarps can be used when painting and by the trucking industry.
  • Truck Tarps-Truck tarps are made fpr securely fitting coverage over trucks that travel over long distances. They are made with a very strong, heavy duty poly coating and has double reinforced fabric around the edges.
  • Lumber Tarps-These tarps are one hundred percent waterproof an UV treated. They are made to keep lumber dry and undamged by UV rays. Common sizes for these tarps range from 20x30 to 30x40.
  • Fire Retardent Tarps-These types of tarps are treated for within the material. They can be either poly or canvas. These tarps are not fire proof, they are fire retardent which means the flames retard.
  • Mesh Tarps-Mesh tarps are made with a nylon tarp threading which is weaved. This makes the tarp screen-like. These tarps are made for wind and/or water to pass through. They are used for shading and to block wind. They are also used by tennis and golf courts. They come in green, black, and tan.
  • Baseball Tarps-These tarps are made for covering athletic fields and range from 100x100 to 170x170 in size. They are waterproof and are very heavy. These tarps can weight over 1000 pounds.

These are just a few examples of the kinds of tarps out there. The kind of tarp you need will depend on its use, so do your research before investing money in the wrong one.
